About the farm

Underground Produce is a 1/3 acre urban farm, formerly the site of Start Now Gardens run by Jean Schanen and Glenn Huff. I grow my produce using only organic methods, embodying the same passion for community involvement and sustainable agriculture as its predecessors, and I am thrilled to share my fresh produce with you!

The farm has multiple raised beds, a greenhouse, a propagation house, a workshop, a cooling shed, cold frames, chicken runs, and even rooftop beds! The irrigation system is run from 5,000-gallon water tanks and all electricity on the property is run off solar panels! It is truly a magnificent space for any aspiring farmer.

The philosophy behind this space has always been the same: grow food sustainably and share with the community in the hopes that urban farming will catch on. It is my hope that society will redefine the role of "farmer" as someone who lives right in your community, sometimes right down the block! Sustainable urban agriculture may work in small spaces but has a huge impact on how our communities eat and share resources as well as how we interact with the environment in the growing climate crisis.
